Nicknamed the "lunar library", the metal disc contains 30 million pages of information that will ensure the "survival of our species". The disc of the size of a DVD is aboard the Beresheet spacecraft that travels to the moon as part of an Israeli mission funded by private funds. The library would contain a collection of songs, children's drawings and writings on Israeli culture and history. There is also an English version of Wikipedia with a guide of 5,000 languages and 1.5 billion examples of translations.
Arch Mission Foundation co-founder, Nova Spivack, supported the mission and stated that its purpose was to help save humanity from its own "past mistakes".
He said: "One of the major challenges of the evolution we face is the amnesia related to our past mistakes and the lack of active countermeasures to repeat them.
"For the survival of our species, we must find ways to become more aware of what has worked and what has not worked, and we must ensure that it is shared with the people of tomorrow. "
The archives, facilitated by Elon Musk, should last at least six billion years.

The director of physics at the University of Arizona, Paul Davies, said the archives also had a symbolic purpose.
He said: "This encourages people to think about the place of man in the universe."
He also added that if humanity could leave artifacts on the moon, it is possible that extraterrestrial civilizations could do the same.
Mr. Davies added, "If we can leave records on the moon for a very long time, maybe E.T. will have done the same thing. "
The Beresheet spacecraft has managed to position itself for landing on the moon this week, despite a previous computer problem.
The probe is thought to be about the size of a washing machine and will gravitate around the Earth until it reaches the gravitational pull of the moon.
The probe is expected to land on the moon on April 11 in the Sea Basin of Tranquility.
