The Steelers made several roster changes ahead of Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos at Heinz Field.
Receiver Cody White was signed to the training squad’s 53-player roster. For the past two weeks, White has been activated in the training squad’s active / inactive roster for the Packers and Bengals games. He had two receptions for 17 yards against Cincinnati.
White was initially signed with the Steelers training squad towards the start of the 2020 season, spending the entire season there. He entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent, signed by the Kansas City Chiefs following the 2020 NFL Draft. He also spent time with the New York Giants and Denver Broncos before being signed by the Steelers.
To make room for White on the roster, the team released goaltender Rashaad Coward.
In addition, security Karl Joseph has been elevated to the active / inactive list of the training team. Joseph, who played for the Cleveland Browns in 2020, was signed with the Steelers practice squad early in the season. He played 14 games last season for the Browns, starting eight and finished with 66 tackles, four passing defenses and one interception. He also added two recovered fumbles.
Joseph is a former Oakland Raiders first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the 14th overall. He has played 49 career games, starting 41, and recorded 249 tackles, four interceptions, three sacks, 16 pass defenses, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. As a rookie, he was named to the Pro Football Writers of America rookie squad, starting nine of 12 games played, with 58 tackles, six pass defenses, one interception and fumble recovery.
After Sunday’s game against the Broncos, Joseph will automatically return to the practice squad without having to go through the waivers.
