The TV host addressed the statement in Thursday’s episode of his Last show.

In the message, released earlier this week, Trump seeks to take credit for the Covid-19 vaccine, saying he “[hopes] everyone remembers when they get ‘the injection’ that ‘if I weren’t president you wouldn’t get this nice’ shot ‘for 5 years at best, and probably not at all. Trump then reiterated, “I hope everyone remembers.”

Colbert read the statement aloud and then commented, “First of all, it’s incredibly sad. Second, pathetic.

“Third, how did we even find out about this statement? He can’t tweet this stuff. Did he just print it out and staple it to telephone poles around Palm Beach? He might as well have come out, ‘ex-prez will take the credit and teach you guitar.’ “

Twitter announced in January of this year that it had permanently banned Trump from using the service after the Capitol riot.

Referring to that decision, Colbert wondered, “We banned him from Twitter. Can we forbid him to use paper, is that possible?

President Joe Biden has announced his intention to call on all states, tribes and territories to make all adult Americans eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine by May 1.

He said his goal was to bring the country closer to normal by July 4, 2021.
