The high price – equivalent to nearly 880,000 SEK – is partly explained by the fact that the money from the auction was donated to a charity, partly because the soldier soldier was exceptionally big with its tasty 850 grams. The bigger the truffle, the more valuable it is, says the auction spokesperson.
The final price means that the truffle cost a little over 1000 SEK per gram, compared to the average market price of 36 crowns.
The buyer resides in Hong Kong.
White truffles from the Albar region are highly sought after.
– It is characterized by an intense scent that emphasizes the feeling of romantic encounters, the forest, nature. It's very atmospheric, "said Antonio Degiacomi, director of the National Center for Truffle Studies of Italy.
This year 's harvest, which started on September 21 and ends last January, is considered very favorable after last year' s poor harvest, which doubled prices.
