Last spring, it was learned that Jönköping could be the first in the world to use a self-propelled truck in traffic.
At present, the first commercial installation of a so-called T-pod has been launched at DB Schenker in Jönköping. The T-Path should be in service between a warehouse and a terminal, and testing on the public highway will begin as soon as the Transportation Agency has given a clear indication.
"At DB Schenker, we are fully engaged in sustainable and innovative logistics, and we consider autonomous vehicles as the future of a particular kind of transport." With Einride, we are at the forefront of the future. It's about setting new standards for the logistics of tomorrow, "said Jochen Thewes, CEO of Schenker in a press release.
The Swedish technology company Einride is also involved in the project.
"Heavy road transport accounts for a significant share of global carbon dioxide emissions, replacing diesel with electricity reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 90%." We are delighted and grateful that DB Schenker has chosen to take part in this revolutionary change in the transport sector, "said Robert Falck, founder of Einrides.
The T-pad is powered by electricity and is self propelled, but will be supervised by an operator who can also control the vehicle remotely. The vehicle has no cab, which means more cargo space and the car weighs about 16 tons.
