Today's industry has announced that the German chemicals company BASF is considering setting up a large battery plant in Finland. The overall investment should cost just over 4 billion Swedish kroner.

This is happening at the same time that the Swedish company Northvolt plans to set up its own plant on the other side of the Gulf of Bothnia.

The Swedish company is headed by Peter Carlsson, former CEO of Tesla, and is planning a plant so big that it has to compensate for the curve of the Earth when it relies on the building. The entire building is expected to cost just over 30 billion Swedish crowns and create more than 2,500 jobs in Sweden. The first quarter batteries at the Northvolt plant are expected to be exhausted and in the same year, BASF is expected to start producing batteries at its own plant. BASF is a large German group that generated 660 billion Swedish kronor last year.

Like Northvolt, the Germans intend to manufacture the batteries with green electricity produced locally.

Earlier on Monday, Breakit announced that Northvolt was planning another plant in Gdansk, Poland.
