Samsung's new factory will have the capacity to manufacture 120 million smartphones a year.

Of the 1.3 billion inhabitants of India, 425 million own a smart phone. The market is growing rapidly and now Samsung Electronics wants a bigger piece of cake. The company will open the world's largest mobile factory in the country, says Bloomberg.

In 2017, the smartphone market in India grew by 14 percent to 124 million units. Of the 20 largest global markets, it is the fastest growing. India is now the second largest smartphone market in the world, after China.

More manufacturers follow Samsung

In Samsung's new mobile factory, cheaper smartphones and the flagship model S9 will be manufactured. The New Delhi-related mobile power plant is invoked on Monday by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modis and South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Other mobile phone manufacturers are also focusing on building factories in India such as Xiaomi Corp and Oppo Mobiles. Xiaomi, which manufactures the most popular smart phones in India, announced last spring that it would build three more factories in the country.
