Half a million Swedes do not use the Internet at all. The majority of them are over 66 years old. It shows a report that The Internet Foundation did.
As our society becomes more and more digital, those outside the system become more vulnerable – which worries the authorities.
The Post and Telecommunications Agency mapped the development of payments, based on statistics from the Internet Foundation.
– There are many new payment services that many also choose to use. As a result, the interest in cash decreases. With rapid development, vulnerability increases for all who are out, says Fredrika Hed Rosen who is responsible for reporting on PTS to Dagens Nyheter.
In total, there are half million who can not pay their own bills online, and those who have no one else to help, will be dependent on the services traditional payment methods.
This concerns authorities because there are major security risks to allowing others to have access to their private data.
– What we hear is that many people help family, neighbors, friends and acquaintances to pay on the Internet and that this is not done legally. The disclosure of private codes and information to individuals is dangerous and questionable from the point of view of legal certainty, says Johanna Jansson the national coordinator of basic payment services, the DN.
