They perfectly complement the family of Airbus A320s. That's what Airbus noted last year when the European aircraft manufacturer bought 50.01% in the manufacture of Bombardier's B series. At one point, Airbus could offer aircraft models from 110 to 230 seats, the CS100 being the smallest with 110 seats on board.
As they are thus fully integrated into the Airbus product line, it quickly became apparent that they would not continue to heat the CS100 and CS300. Yesterday, the first of two new family members crashed and landed directly at the paint shop of the large Airbus complex in Toulouse.
– It's not every day that we can welcome a new family member, said Guillaume Faury, president of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, in a comment.
The text on the machine also clearly showed where the model belongs now. The collective term is A220 and the smaller version is called A220-100 and the larger A220-300. This means that they train their own little family within Airbus. Bombardier also plans to build a third larger version, but the hard economy has put an end to this development up to now. Now, however, there are completely other resources against which to support it.
The new last name is a little revolutionary at Airbus. The aircraft manufacturer has always named his plane with the very first machine, the A300, as a starting point and, over the years, he looked for the A380 number.
The commitment and the future of Airbus compared to the new family member pose no problem. Admittedly, Gulf Air has recently jumped off an order but ambitious sales targets target 100 planes sold before the end of the year. He is already on the right track to be met. In parallel with the launch of the A220 family, Jet Blue has ordered 60 A220-300 masters.
The new name means that BRA will start improving the fleet of aircraft at A220-100 from early 2020. Originally commissioned, when the name was still Malmö Aviation, five of each version . It has since been changed to ten of the smallest machine. There is also an option for ten other aircraft.
– We are creating a fleet of CS-100 units and we offer several advantages in flight production, a relatively small airline, told BRA's communications director, Emma Sandsjö, at Flygtorget.
