Private car maker Volvo Cars announced Thursday's cooperation with Chinese search giant Baidu. The purpose of this cooperation is to jointly develop compatible electric cars for fully automated driving. The cars will be mass produced for the largest Chinese market in the world.

In the press release, Volvo Cars points out that it was the first foreign company involved in such cooperation with the Chinese equivalent of Google. It should be mentioned in this regard that since 2010 Volvo cars belong to the Chinese group Geely.

Baidu will bring its platform for automated driving, called Apollo. Volvo, at its expense, brings its expertise and advanced technologies related to the automotive industry.

"Together with Baidu, we are taking a big step forward in marketing our cars that are compatible with automated driving," said Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo Cars, in a statement.

Baidu's chairman, Ya-Qin Zhang, points out that Volvo's reputation as a manufacturer of safe cars is at the origin of the choice of its partner.
