The previously closed industrial zone of the V-train yesterday celebrated the "opening festival" and informed about the district's new "technological cluster" project. The industry and the city meet
The V-train has big plans. Under the "Technology Cluster Zug" label, the company plans to renew its own production processes and create an industrial center in Zug. This should create long-term jobs and promote local synergies. "We think the industry is coming back," says V-train general manager Beat Weiss. "Back from low wage countries and also from the city." This is why the V-train is investing in the Zug site in the long run. On May 8, the Zug City Council approved the project development plan, which includes a total of 990000 cubic meters of buildings. Part will be bought by V-Zug himself. The rest should be available for other uses. In addition to offices and industry, a small contingent of apartments must also be created. Also the cheaper living space is expected.
"We believe that the industry is coming back, the return of low-wage countries and return to the city."
Beat Weiss, General Manager V-Zug
The craft town of Zug located at the corner of the Göblistrasse / Industriestrasse opened yesterday on the previously closed industrial area Until recently, temporary use of V-train laboratories and production facilities was used for this temporary use. The future, the site will be developed and built with partners and users from the outside.Till then, Handwerkstatt Zug uses the hall as store.Next, the company was located further north on Industriestrasse There, however, a parking lot has to be built to develop the infrastructure for the cluster.
No interruption of production
Rochaden like these, the V-train still has it before him, until in 2024 he wants to have completed his internal transformation. "The production of the V-train must be maintained throughout the construction process," informs Christoph Graf to the visitors of the "opening festival". "This is a major challenge and this entails additional costs for various interim solutions." Graf is the project leader for the structural reorganization of the V-train and led interested parties and neighbors to the excavation pit of the "Speedy Hangar" yesterday. As part of the former development plan, the V-Zug already builds a hall for a new servo-transfer press line. The building is tailor-made for the machine of 30 million francs and is designed to double the volume.
After the development plan Now that the city council has accepted it, the V-train is waiting for the Zug government council to give the green light.
Flexible adaptations possible
The development plan is currently open to the public and will be reviewed by the Office of Regional Planning. "From the beginning, we have been in close contact with all the authorities and we have assumed that, with the current status, we cover all the conditions and needs of the canton," says Weiss. "What's good with the development plan is that it has a very flexible design." General lines and possible fields of use have been defined for the different construction sites. If necessary, these can still be adjusted for concrete building entrances. It must be between 55,000 cubic meters and 165,000 cubic meters of living space mass. "Surprisingly, the city encouraged us to build more living space than we intended to do," says Weiss. More living space means higher yields. "But the V-train clearly aims for a healthy production location, not for quick profits." For employees in the production of the V-train, Weiss sees no danger of upheavals. "Our production processes are optimized daily, otherwise we would not be in business anymore."
