Biker Days attracted thousands of bikers to Basel this weekend. The highlight was the big Saturday outing through the city.
If you only came close to Basel's port on weekends, you saw and heard one thing above all: a lot of motorcycles. For the curious and demanding, visits began in the car park. Already on Friday night at the beginning of the Biker Days, the access roads to the Klybecker Hafengebiet were lined with stationary machines, meter by meter in steel and chrome
"That's enough and it feels like a biker at the House". A feeling that was worth to visitors a few drops of sweat. Especially everyone who came to the big exit. What is the use of a motorcycle when it does not drive?
As if the city was at your feet
Anyone can imagine traveling through the city with hundreds of other motorcycles. Imagining how all these motorcycles arrive where they should start later is also possible. If you add several coaches and temperatures of about 30 degrees, you have an idea of what it means when hundreds of bikers think: "Finally, the wind!". Driving is as if the city was at your feet, later described a Basel. When the motorcycles have parked again, the same people collectively think: "Thirsty!" What – hopefully – the organizer can imagine. This roughly describes the motorcycle ride on Saturday lunchtime.
Some riders took a lot of kilometers under their tires. Jana from Prague traveled 730 kilometers to participate in Biker Days. "Today, I spend the night with friends, and then it's back to work," she says. There are license plates from England, Italy, Austria, southern Germany, France and Switzerland on car parks. A participant from Vorarlberg packed the family in the car and dropped off at the nearby mall to see the parade and meet acquaintances. Others are on the way during the holidays, just want to continue.
The roar of engines slowly gives way to loudspeakers. Above the nearly 400-meter strip of event area on Uferstraße lies the smell of several barbecues. After the departure of some of the travelers, there is also room for walkers in the loading lanes. While the band "Lords of Rock" is preparing in the concert area and the music festival "Tales of Drone" is already in full swing in the Marina-Bar square, Basler and the bikers are walking in the Marktgassen. Those who participated in the parade have sunburns. The tattoo artist is busy. And fishnet stockings can look cool at any age, it turns out that
The majority wants to have fun, especially
The motorcycle brands booths alternate with the jewelers and accessory stores. Among them is a tent of the organization "Bikers against Child Abuse", which supports abused children and victims of bullying and drives them to school. Sellers on a stand with leather accessories wear orange shirts with the inscription "Jesus saves also bikers". The free editions of the "Biker Bible" are out. However, it's not going too well: right next door, visitors can take pictures with the "Fuel Girls", who are dressed in the crowd as an advertisement for the evening pyro-strip show. A few steps further to the motorcycle clubs in the "MC Village". In addition, there is a lot of dedication and impressions, plus a little more handshake and lots of beer. If you like something, wear a leather jacket with the colors of your club. So much etiquette must be, even in the middle of summer. The largest tent has the Hells Angels Basel, including its own DJ and a member-only area. After some research there is also a representative of the Hells Angels Black Forest, but he does not mean anything.
"I'm fine," says Dani, treasurer of Basel's "Mojos", who grills next door. "We first thought that only people who want to take a look at the tough guys come, but that does not happen," he says. Basel's motorcycle clubs, he said, have a family relationship. The only fight that he can remember from the three day story of Bike Days was between two dealers. The concept of the organizer of a motorcycle festival for all seems to have worked. Above all, the majority is determined to have a good time.
