ETH Zurich began an administrative inquiry: After doctoral students from the Department of Biosystems (D-BSSE) of Basel complained of a lack of leadership and care, the situation "in relation to a chair" is now clarified.
Reports of possible abuses take the ETH Zurich very seriously, writes the university in a Wednesday message. ETH Zurich President Lino Guzzella reportedly said: "We follow the clues closely, review, evaluate and listen to all parties."
A total of four investigations
The internal preliminary examination now has the direction of the Basel School initiated an external and independent investigation: the purpose is to check whether the allegations are justified. In addition, it should be clarified "if steps need to be taken to improve the working environment of doctoral students in the chair and in the department, if necessary."
ETH Zurich discovered these last months different institutes. According to the university, four administrative investigations are currently underway, including the Basel survey. These are lengthy procedures that take time.
"Until the individual proceedings are completed, ETH Zurich does not comment on the investigations," the statement said.
