Around 7 pm, the flames suddenly exploded in the old town of Bern: the top floor of the Morell house – a patrician house emblematic of the Postgasse 14 – was in full blaze. The flames were to be seen far away, thick smoke shot through large parts of the old town of Bern.
A local reporter reported that there was no fire open at 8 pm. A spread to other houses could obviously have been avoided. However, the old city was still shrouded in dense smoke. The area was sometimes closed on a large scale.
At 9:30 pm, the fire was finally under control, according to the cantonal police of Berne . According to Kapo spokeswoman Sarah Wahlen, two people had to be taken to the hospital for control.

According to Bern firefighters on Twitter, the Bernese firefighters, the Brandcorps's three companies, the Ostermundigen firefighters, the Berne cantonal police and Bern police were in action. Due to the fire, Bernmobil is currently experiencing route cancellations and delays on the Bernmobil bus line 12.
According to the website of the City of Bern, renovation works are underway at the Morell House. Among other things, seven apartments of two and three rooms were to be built by the middle of 2019.
