The general renewal of the IC 2000 fleet involves enormous efforts: around 120 specialists will work for five years in the SBB plant. Olten – mechanics, electricians, floor installers, carpenters, locksmiths, painters, engineers and technicians.
345,000 kilometers a day
In the summer, the first five cars roll in the factory of Olten. These are the prototypes with which the project staff acquires experience in the various modernization activities. After the prototype phase, the start of mass production is scheduled for the end of the year 2019.
The 35 compositions of the IC2000 fleet cover 345,000 kilometers with a total of 341 cars per day in the wind and weather. As intercity trains, they connect centers such as Geneva, Bern, Brig, Zurich, St. Gallen, Lucerne and Chur. In the meantime, the oldest vehicles have been on the SBB network for some 20 years
32,000 seats, 40 kilometers of carpets, 120 tons of paint
Among other things, trains are getting new ones carpet. Extrapolated to the entire fleet, the carpets give a band one meter wide over a length of 40 kilometers, as the message says. Corresponding to the carpets, more than 32,000 seats are freshly upholstered and covered with new fabric. There are changing tables in the family wagons.
The IC2000 fleet meal wagons will be equipped with a new color scheme and new seating options. This will benefit wheelchair users in the future, as the basement restoration area will be more accessible.
Improved Mobile Reception
The complete technical overhaul and cool exterior paintwork of the bodywork are also of paramount importance. In addition, the outlets are directly integrated into the new compartment tables, mobile reception is improved and additional security features such as passenger terminals and fire alarm systems are installed in the car.
