The Federal Office of Roads (Astra) is considering the construction of a two-storey motorway in the Limmattal of Zurich. With this, the federal government wants to limit or even reduce traffic jams, as stated by Astra Director, Jürg Röthlisberger, during an interview with the "NZZ am Sonntag". "We are studying whether we can exploit a portion of the two-story A1," said Röthlisberger. The trail leads through a flat moor, which is why you can hardly build further in width. The SVG National Council in Aargau has long called for two-storey highways. It is also the boss of auto-Switzerland, Andreas Burgener. With the PS and the Greens, this idea will probably be criticized: the two parties already reject the current construction program with a volume of 13 billion francs, in whole or in part.
Thus, the Green Party criticizes the federal government without control. Traffic growth and therefore put on a "concrete policy of the last century". Technical innovations such as driver assistance systems would not be taken into account. The head of the office, Röthlisberger, believes that automated driving brings a benefit mainly for safety.
In the context of increasing congestion, Röthlisberger promised an improvement for motorists. "Remedy is in sight," said Bernese, 54. He said he was confident of being able to limit or even reduce traffic jams by nearly 26,000 hours in 2017, despite the increase in traffic.
The Astra leader mentioned expansion projects, temporary speed adjustments for smoother traffic and Third Way breakdowns and the planned passage of traffic in heavy traffic.
According to Röthlisberger, the Baregg bottleneck on the A1 is in the foreground of a fourth tube. The new lines will also be checked. The most obvious option would be to turn left earlier in the Limmattal towards Bern and build a new tunnel across the Heitersberg until the Birrfeld AG junction at Spreitenbach AG. For an adjustment of the decision of the network by the parliament would be necessary.
The Astra boss in the interview also indirectly criticized the politics of city traffic. "The traffic is flowing like water, so if we widen the main line, but there is nothing happening at the lower level of the network, there is traffic jam – then, all our construction program "Unfortunately, the consciousness was lost in cities and towns."
