For more than 50 years, the Wiler Retainer Ueli Kuhn was waiting for the flowering of his king's agave. The moment has come: the factory of the Mexican century is flourishing for the first and last time.
The royal agave is extremely rare in European latitudes and much less often in our region. The factory three and a half meters tall attracts many visitors to the garden of retired Ueli Kuhn in Wil.

Agaves rarely bloom
"You have some pride when something so rare flourishes," says Ueli Kuhn. The amateur gardener of Wil can rightly be proud of his plant: experts confirm that agave has a rarity value. "Here in the greenhouse, we have some royal avengers, but in the trade, it's not available," says Maria Hadorn. She runs with her husband in Sirnach a greenhouse with more than 2500 different cactus

Flowering is unpredictable
Since Ueli Kuhn bought the plant in 1963, it has only grown a few inches each year. A month and a half ago, she suddenly jumped. The fact that the plant has bloomed after 55 years is a pure coincidence: "There is really no reason for it.It is the force majeure.It has now reached its Blühreife.But another plant may still take 10 years to bloom, "says Maria Hadorn
