On the Basel-Olten line, SBB between Gelterkinden and Tecknau renew the road over a length of 4.3 kilometers and build new drainage systems for the tracks. This is why the route from June 30th to August 13th is only one way. Until now, the work has been done without major incidents, according to the SBB. From mid-August, the road should be able to move normally for trains.
Many commuters are affected by this construction and sometimes have to accept significant delays. Nevertheless, SBB can not work only at night. This would increase costs by about a third. This would be the best solution to rehabilitate one track after the other. Although that means that about 80% of the trains must be diverted, the Pro Bahn Northwestern Switzerland interest group believes that this solution is optimal.

In summer, Switzerland works on more than 30 large SBB projects. It will be renewed from about 55 kilometers of road. Around 92,000 sleepers and 130,000 tonnes of ballast are used
