The Lucerne Psychiatry (lups) optimizes the alarm system in the Lucerne acute care clinic. The trigger was an incident in February, when two teenagers overpowered a nurse and escaped from the clinic.
On February 3 at 2:45 pm, police rang the alarm: Two teenagers aged 15 and 16 were in the psychiatric ward. The Lucerne Hospital overwhelmed a nurse, stole her key and left the building. The woman was injured. The Lucerne police confirmed a corresponding message from "Central Switzerland on Sunday."
The two escapees were arrested shortly after midnight and arrested, they are charged with injuries. The trial is still ongoing and belongs to juvenile justice.
For Lucerne psychiatry, the incident already has consequences. The alarm system has not worked satisfactorily, said Lucerne's director of psychiatry staff, Thomas Lemp on request. Why the alarm has not been triggered, we can not say for sure.
Such attacks are indeed very rare. But now you can upgrade the system with pagers. In addition, other measures such as tests, training and checklists should increase safety.
Lucerne Psychiatry runs three 17-bed acute care units on the grounds of the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital in Lucerne. About a hundred employees are busy running the clinic for seven days.
