The Waldenburgerbahn is officially the worst regional train in Switzerland. This is demonstrated by a quality measurement ordered by the Federal Office of Transport (FOT). In addition to the quality report, yesterday the office published on request the results broken down by the carriers.
The Waldenburg Railway, which works the least well here, operates only one line. It leads from the small Waldenburg in the canton of Basel-Country to Liestal. In the quality ranking, the ticket received only 71.5 out of 100 points. It is therefore well below the minimum standard set by the Federal Office at 89.7 points. The Waldenburg railway will probably not happen again. It merged two years ago with the company Baselland Transport AG, which is now devoting itself to the total renovation of the railway line up to Waldenburg. So the quality should increase.
The reason a train works well or badly is not shown by the data. The OFT publishes only the total number of points obtained. The best regional train in Switzerland is however – as the worst – a miniature railroad: the Meiringen-Innertkirchen-Bahn in the Bernese Oberland achieves 99.4 points out of 100 in the measurement of quality.
