The army general was the last soldier to leave Afghanistan

Major General Chris Donahue of the army’s 82nd Airborne Division was the last soldier to leave Afghanistan, officials said on Monday.

U.S. Central Command released a photo of Donahue preparing to board the latest C-17 military cargo plane leave the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.

Naval General Frank McKenzie, chief of the United States Central Command, told reporters in a virtual briefing that the departure of the C-17 at 3:29 p.m. ET, “every member of the United States service is now out of order. Afghanistan ”.

Donahue “is the last American serviceman to leave Afghanistan; his departure ends the US mission to evacuate US citizens, Afghan special immigrant visa applicants and vulnerable Afghans, ”the central command said.

The operation evacuated more than 120,000 US citizens, citizens of US allies and Afghan allies in less than three weeks.

Nearly 2,500 servicemen and 3,800 American contractors have been killed in the nearly 20-year war, including 13 servicemen who died Thursday in a terrorist attack outside Kabul airport.
