“ The common man must wait until 2022 for the Covid vaccine ”

AIIMS director and member of India’s National Coronavirus Management Working Group Dr Randeep Guleria said ordinary people will have to wait until 2022 for an injection of the Covid vaccine. He said it will take “over a year” for the coronavirus vaccine to be readily available in Indian markets.

In an interview with CNN-News 18, Randeep Guleria said: “In our country the population is large; we need time to see how the vaccine can be bought in the market as an influenza vaccine and take it. This will actually be the ideal situation. “

Asked about the challenges India will face after the coronavirus vaccine becomes available, Guleria said the main focus will be its distribution and to ensure it reaches all regions of the country. “Maintaining the cold chain, having the right syringes, the right needles and being able to deliver it to the most remote part of the country transparently is the biggest challenge,” he said.

The second challenge, said Dr Randeep Guleria, would be determining the positioning of another vaccine that will come out later and is considered more effective than the first.

“So if we have a vaccine that comes out later that is considered more effective than the first one, how do we position it? How to make a course correction? How then to decide who needs vaccine A and who needs vaccine B? Many decisions have to be made as we go, ”said the director of AIIMS.

Plus, he made a surprising revelation. He claimed that the coronavirus infection “will not go away” with the vaccination.

At the same time, India has let several countries know that it will use its vaccine production and distribution capacities to help humanity fight the Covid crisis.

A message to this effect was given by Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla during a briefing organized for more than 190 heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations and their representatives.
