With the emergence of the more contagious Delta variant in California, which has rapidly increased to over 80% of cases in California in recent weeks, the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations is rising again across the country. ‘State. With this in mind, universal masking in indoor public places is now again recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Humboldt County Public Health. Universal masking in public adds an additional precautionary measure for all to reduce the transmission of COVID-19, especially in communities currently experiencing the highest transmission rates, such as ours. Guideline changes like these are not taken lightly but are necessary to protect the public, stop the spread of disease among the unvaccinated, and keep our institutions fully operational.

The recent increase in the number of cases in Humboldt County poses a real threat not only to our community, but also to the county’s ability to provide essential services.

As such, starting tomorrow, Friday, July 30, the county will require all employees and members of the public to wear a mask inside county facilities, even those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This is a mandatory requirement and not a recommendation.
