SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Department of Health says an error in its online registration system for COVID-19 vaccines allowed thousands of ineligible Utahs to book appointments recently.

The ministry said in an announcement on Saturday that 7,200 people have signed up who are not part of the currently eligible demographics.
Those appointments will be canceled within the next 24 hours, the UDOH said, and those whose appointments have been canceled will be notified via email. Several hundred have already canceled on their own after learning of the mistake.

“We apologize for this error and for any confusion it has caused,” wrote department spokesman Tom Hudachko. “We appreciate the enthusiasm the people of Utah have shown for the COVID-19 vaccine, and we strongly encourage all Utahns to get vaccinated once they are eligible.”
Anyone who believes their appointment has been mistakenly canceled is advised to contact the local health department where they made the appointment or try to resuming it online.
