WASHINGTON, March 23, 2019 – Tip Top Poultry, Inc., an establishment in Rockmart, GA, recalls approximately 100 pounds of frozen and fully diced white chicken meat products due to false allergens and undeclared allergens, according to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture announced today. The products contain soy, a known allergen, which is not stated on the product label.

The products are labeled as fully cut diced white chicken meat products but contain fully cooked toasted chicken breast strips. The products were manufactured on February 15, 2019. The following products are subject to recall: [View Labels (PDF only)]

  • 10 lb. case containing two 5-lb. plastic bags containing "Gordon ™ CHOICE" all-natural white diced chicken meat, code 599697, and "PACKDATE 02/15/19".

Recall products bear the P-17453 plant number within the USDA control mark. These items were shipped to a distributor in Michigan.

The problem was discovered after the company had received a complaint from a customer claiming that she had received fully cooked grilled chicken strips instead of fully diced white chicken meat. FSIS was notified on March 22, 2019.

No cases of adverse effect related to the consumption of these products has been confirmed. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a health care provider.

FSIS is concerned that some products will end up in the freezers of restaurants and warehouses. Restaurants that have purchased these products are urged not to use them. These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely performs recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling companies are reporting the recall to their customers and that steps are being taken to ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
