The National Hurricane Center will begin issuing advisories on the tropical depression 12 to 5 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Although winds with the system are sustained at 35 mph, for now the system is expected to strengthen as it moves west-northwest over the next few days. We will continue to monitor the development of the system at NBC2, but at this time there is no threat to Florida.

The current forecast intensity shows that Tropical Depression 12 becomes Tropical Storm Larry as of this evening, and eventually strengthens to become a Category 2 hurricane as it crosses the central Atlantic Ocean.

Elsewhere in the tropics, Tropical Depression Kate continues to produce sustained winds of 35 mph as the storm continues to struggle to organize over the open Atlantic Ocean. Kate is not a threat to Florida or any part of the United States as she is moving north at seven mph.

Finally tonight, in the Western Caribbean, another area is being watched for potential development at the end of the week. The NHC currently rates the odds of development at 10% over the next two days and 20% over the next five days.

Count on the NBC2 First Alert hurricane monitoring team to keep you up to date with any changes in the tropics, especially as we head into the climatic peak of the hurricane season.
