CHAMPAIGN – Two more people have measles in Champaign County.

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced these additions Sunday afternoon.

The person with the third case of measles was quarantined for the entire infectious period.

The fourth case is awaiting genotyping results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Julie A. Pryde, Administrator, said the four cases of measles were no longer contagious.

According to Pryde, most people vaccinated against measles are systematically vaccinated in their infancy, starting at the age of one year, and do not pose a high risk of infection.

"Unvaccinated people, including infants, are the most worrisome," she said.

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is collaborating with the Urbana and Carle Early Childhood School to identify potential contacts.

The possible exposures took place:

  • Between 5pm and 8.30pm February 7th at Texas Roadhouse, 204 N. Country Fair Drive, C
  • Between 19h and 21h10 February 10 at Save-A-Lot, 220 N. Broadway Avenue, U
  • Between 1 pm and 5:30 pm 11, 12, 13, and 14 February at Urbana Early Childhood School, 2202 E. Washington, U.
  • Between 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm Tuesday at Carle Convenient Care, 1818 E. Windsor Road, U

According to Pryde, the symptoms of measles include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes. If a person has measles symptoms, the health district recommends staying at home and using a health care provider.

Special provisions can be made for assessment while protecting other patients and medical staff from possible infections.
