More people were hospitalized for COVID-19 across the country on Saturday than ever during the months-long pandemic, with 91,635 patients currently admitted with the virus, data shows.
Saturday’s new high comes after the number of hospitalizations dropped the day before for the first time in 30 consecutive days, according to the COVID Tracking Project.
“Hospitalizations have increased every day since October 25, except [Friday], and [Friday’s] the decrease was probably related to data on holidays reported with a delay of one day ”, the group written on twitter.
In total, the United States has reported more than 13.3 million cases, including more than 266,000 deaths, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University.
There have been at least 4 million cases so far in November, more than double the previous record of 1.9 million cases set in October, The New York Times reported.
Dr Anthony Fauci warned on Sunday that those numbers would continue to soar after millions of Americans flocked for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“What we unfortunately expect over the next several weeks in December is a surge that overlaps this wave that we are already in,” the country’s leading infectious disease expert Chuck Todd told the ‘Meet the Press’ program.
