People who are not fully vaccinated against the coronavirus are 1.5 times more likely to contract the Delta variant than their fully dosed counterparts, a new study from the Directorate of Military Intelligence showed on Monday.
Almost all of the newly hospitalized patients across the country contracted the highly contagious Delta variant, which the study found infected 0.12% of all vaccinated and 0.18% of all unvaccinated in Israel.
The study further showed that although the vaccine is less effective at preventing infection, it is still very capable of preventing hospitalization and serious illness.

Another vaccinated individual who contracted the Delta variant is Liron, 49, who believes he was infected by his son.
“He was in summer camp, and after it was over he took a COVID test that came back negative,” Liron said.
“After three days it turned out that there was a confirmed patient in the camp, so my son had another test, which came back positive this time. I took him by car. We rode with masks, but it didn’t help. Despite the vaccine, I got infected. In terms of symptoms, it’s like a mild flu: fever, muscle aches, weakness, and a dry cough. “
Another confirmed patient is Shlomi, 44, who was also infected despite being fully vaccinated.
“I have allowed myself to drive around without a mask since I received both hits,” Shlomi told Ynet. “Eventually I got infected. It included a fairly high fever, two hard nights at 39 degrees [Celcius, 102 degrees Fahrenheit], as well as a sudden loss of taste and smell, ”he said.

Due to the current increase in COVID cases across the country, Israel recently launched its third jab campaign, offering a reminder to citizens over 60 who have received a full dose.
Statistics from the Health Ministry show that more than 420,000 Israelis aged 60 and over have received the booster so far, more than a third of the total target population.
