A taste of culture this Hispanic Heritage Month

Discover these cultural events, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month (see the full schedule of HHM events here), offering all more great (and tasty!) reasons to be on campus this fall, thanks to the Faculty Students Association (FSA):

Tuesday, October 12, dinner in East Side (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.)

Chef Reyes’ menu includes baked chicken, cooked chickpeas, yellow rice, fried plantains, and an avocado and tomato salad.

Wednesday, October 13, Dinner-In East Side and West Side (4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the East and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the West)
Take part in an authentic Peruvian dinner

Savor delicious food including Peruvian roast chicken with fresh lime, Latin spices and a spicy green herb sauce, vegetable paella with short grain saffron rice, cremini mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and mixed peppers , the Papa a la Huancaina covered with cotija cheese, cream and fresh coriander.

The return of the champions

The Face Mask Champion program continues to help us keep our community on campus safe by adhering to critical mask wearing protocols. Stony Brook Medicine Champions are reminding employees to wear their face masks (not just cover their mouths) and to continue to distance themselves socially in public spaces such as the cafeteria, Starbucks Hospital and in washrooms. pause.

The West Campus Face Mask Champions are trained volunteers who are given special masks and cards to gently remind members of the campus community of the mask wearing advice. Director of Healthier U Cathrine Duffy – [email protected] – will provide an optional Zoom call to champions with questions after the training, and will continue to welcome more volunteers to “advocate” on the West Campus.

Where to get those first (and second) shots in the arm

We continue to make POD vaccines available across campus. This includes the first and second vaccines, as well as reminders for eligible employees. We sent out a coronavirus update on Tuesday, October 5, explaining the second injection requirements / timelines for employees covered by the New York State Department of Health’s vaccine mandate. If you have any questions regarding the mandate, please contact Human Resources at 631-444-4770 or email [email protected]. Thank you to everyone who helps keep our campus safe and open for in-person learning by following these protocols and other SBUs, such as testing and wearing masks.
