BOSTON (AP) – Healthcare workers at Massachusetts’ largest hospital system have been temporarily banned from signing up for the new COVID-19 vaccine after the online appointment system crashed amid a demand increased Wednesday night, system officials said.

Mass General Brigham’s system had to shut down its registration system on Wednesday after it slowed down due to heavy traffic from workers trying to register, The Boston Globe reported.

A notice on the website said it was facing technical issues “due to a large number of employees trying to make their own appointments for a COVID-19 vaccine.”

The health care system briefly shut down the website to fix issues and reopens it for waves of workers throughout the day on Thursday, Ann Prestipino, an operations commander at Mass General Brigham, told The Globe.

The last wave of employees will be allowed to register at 8 p.m.

The blackout frustrated some workers who remained standing to register and were still locked out on Thursday. Critical care and lung transplant doctor Dr Yuval Raz said on Twitter that he was “holding back tears.”

“Up all night after the app crashed, online this morning and the windows for today and tomorrow for vaccinations have been filled before we cut the line,” Raz wrote.
