Microsoft has released a new version 19H1 for Windows Insiders on the fast ringtone today. The 18358 version of 19H1 follows the 18356 version released three days ago for these same insiders, and the new elements provide additional bugfixes, although some known issues remain.

Microsoft claims to have solved some problems with game mode in this version and that streaming games or Windows Insiders registration games should benefit from more consistent performance. The company is also seeking information on its State of Decay game available through the Xbox Insider Hub and, if you have not tested it yet, it has just added new slot machines. You can learn more about other bug fixes and known issues in version 18358 below:

General changes, improvements and fixes for PC

  • Here is the latest test of our new Windows gaming technology:
    • You still have not had the chance to get the game State of Decay for free (for a limited time)? We added even more slots! Whether you have tried it in previous versions or have not had the chance to do so, these instructions contain everything you need.
    • Have you already installed the Insider version of State of Decay? We will try another update later today. To obtain it, launch the Store application, click on […] and then "Downloads and Updates". Once installed, you should not see any difference in the game – it's just a test update – but please let us know if something is not working!

  • We have solved the following problem: Some upgrade paths may leave the contents of the trash on Windows.old.
  • We fixed a problem causing the failure of upgrades to 18% or 25% and the cancellation for some insiders.
  • We have fixed a problem causing some insiders to display green screens with the KERNEL_SECURITY_VIOLATION error.
  • We have solved a problem that some applications using Windows Installer have failed recently.

Known issues

  • Updates from the Microsoft Store app do not automatically install on 18356+. To work around the problem, you can manually search for and install updates through the Microsoft Store application. Open Select "…"> "Downloads and Updates"> "Get Updates".
  • Launching games using anti-cheat software may trigger a bug check (GSOD).
  • Creative X-Fi sound cards do not work properly. We are working in partnership with Creative to solve this problem.
  • Some Realtek SD card readers do not work properly. We study the problem.
  • We are currently investigating an issue that prevents VMware from installing or updating versions of Windows Insider Preview. Hyper-V is a viable alternative if you have the opportunity.

Known Issues for Developers
* If you install one of the recent versions of the fast ring and switch to the slow ring, optional content such as developer mode activation will fail. You will need to stay in the Quick Ring to add / install / activate optional content. This is because the optional content installs only on approved versions for specific rings.

The blog article also mentioned the release of new Windows Defender Application Guard extensions for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Once the extension is installed, Chrome and Firefox users visiting an untrusted website will be redirected to an isolated Microsoft Edge session where they can browse the site safely.

Microsoft says Windows Defender Application Guard extensions for Chrome and Firefox are currently deployed on Windows Insiders and will be available soon. They will require Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise version 1803 or later. These past days have been rather busy for Windows Insiders and we hope that the stream of new releases will continue next week.
