While the numbers are still high and concerning, North Carolina has reported fewer new COVID-19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations, which could indicate our post-vacation peak is declining.
According to the state, more than 8,000,000 COVID-19 tests have been performed in North Carolina. The percentage of positive cases in the state is 10%, which is still higher than what experts want but the lowest percentage reported since December 23.
As of Saturday, 6,811 new cases were reported, a number lower than in the past three days. In the past 24 hours, 67 new deaths have been reported and 3,862 North Carolinians are hospitalized with COVID-19, a number lower than in the past five days.
The average daily number of cases in North Carolina is 7,350, the lowest since Jan.5, now that two weeks have passed since the holidays and celebrations.
While it is getting easier and faster to get a COVID-19 test, vaccine rollout has been slow in North Carolina. Most counties have started immunizing people aged 65 and over in addition to healthcare workers, while in other counties some people are struggling to end up on a waiting list.
