A Michigan woman has been arrested in the death of her newborn twins 17 years ago.
Antoinette Briley, 41, of Holland, faces murder charges in connection with the deaths, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said on Saturday.
A garbage collector from Stuckey Township, southwest Chicago, was at work when she found the bodies of the twins in June 2003.

They came out of a trash can in an alley.
An autopsy determined the infants were born alive and then asphyxiated, Dart’s office said.
The identity of the birth mother has remained a mystery until this year.

Dart’s office said DNA and genetic genealogy solved the case, identifying Briley as the woman who gave birth to the newborns.
“As part of the investigation, the sheriff’s police detectives traveled to Holland and obtained a discarded item containing Briley’s DNA, which matched the victims’ DNA,” Dart’s office said. .
Briley was arrested during a traffic stop Thursday at Oak Lawn.Ill.

Investigators were working to locate her in Cook County when they made the arrest.
