New York City officials closed two Jewish religious schools in Brooklyn for failing to comply with the Department of Health's measles outbreak guidelines.

Tiferes Bnos and Talmud Torah D'Nitra preschool are banned until the Ministry of Health approves school plans to prevent unvaccinated students from going to school, according to reports.

Earlier this month, Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a health emergency and ordered unvaccinated people living or working in four postcodes in the Williamsburg district, populated largely by orthodox haredi, to be vaccinated or pay fines of up to $ 1,000.

"Schools that continue to ignore our instructions during the outbreak will be closed until they can prove to the Ministry of Health that they will comply with this rule." said Dr. Oxiris Barbot, health commissioner. "The reality is that the longer it takes schools and individuals to comply with our order, the longer this outbreak will take."

Five schools closed by the Ministry of Health for failing to enforce regulations banning unvaccinated students and forcing schools to keep medical and attendance records on-site were allowed to reopen this week, New York Daily News.

In addition, 57 people were summoned for noncompliance with the Department of Health emergency order to be vaccinated.

Since Monday, 423 cases of measles have been confirmed in New York since the beginning of the epidemic in October, including 348 in Williamsburg, according to the Yeshiva World News.
