TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Governor Laura Kelly, D-Kansas, has joined a call with county commissioners and public health officials to discuss her new order and her administration’s COVID-19 response.
She spoke about the state’s new unified testing strategy and a public health campaign they’ve been working on to encourage the Kansans to do their part to slow the spread. This campaign is expected to launch on Monday 23 November.
With the governor’s mask tenure coming into effect on Wednesday, she said this gives counties time to develop their own plan if they choose to withdraw from her order.
Governor Kelly said that whatever they decide, she urges them to encourage the use of masks in their communities.
“I know face masks have become a political issue, but wearing a face mask does not limit our freedom on where we can go and what we can do, in fact just the opposite,” she said. continued, “They allow us to keep our businesses open, to keep our kids in school and to protect our economy.”
The governor also assured that the masks would not be needed forever, just before a vaccine was widely distributed and available to all Kansans.
