IRON MOUNTAIN – The deposit fee charged for rental properties when utilities are placed in the tenant’s name will increase to $ 150, from $ 100 currently, under an amended Iron Mountain policy passed by city council.

The deposit is intended to cover the final water bill, but the majority of those bills now exceed $ 100, said city manager Jordan Stanchina. The filing fees were last changed in 2012.

Additionally, if the landlord initiates an affidavit establishing the tenant as solely responsible for payment, the filing fee will be $ 400.

In another action on Monday, the advice:

– I heard Stanchina report that the standpipes will be emptied next week. Public works crews will begin on Lehman Avenue near the well site and work north to south over a four-day period, starting Monday.

– I have learned that Bacco Construction Co. will begin sewer repairs on Stanton Street next week, which will be followed by a 0.6 mile paving project. In September, Bacco received an offer of $ 465,995 to do more than 1.5 miles of paving in the city’s streets and lanes, but only work on Stanton Street will be done this fall. The completion date has been left open until June 2022 as contractors in the region are full.

– I heard Ken Clawson, council member, suggest that the municipal portion of Kramer Drive in the Pine Mountain area would be a priority for future paving.

– After receiving no offers to purchase a new police vehicle – a 2021 all-wheel drive Dodge Charger V6 – accepted the list price of $ 28,184 from Lansing’s LaFontaine Chrysler Dodge Jeep as part of the program State MiDeal. The city has budgeted $ 41,300 for the purchase, including equipment, and will be reimbursed $ 14,300 through a rural development grant from the US Department of Agriculture.

– Authorized to pay annual dues of $ 840 to the Northern Michigan Public Service Academy, which offers training sessions to employees in the Upper Peninsula, eliminating the need to travel downstate.
