Blue Origin-Artemis: clip shows blinding flames out of engine during test

New Delhi:

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company Blue Origin intends to put the first woman on the moon.

Testing of the rocket motor that will take the first female astronaut to the moon is in full swing and Mr Bezos shared a stunning video of one of this week’s tests.

The short clip shows blinding, colorful flames out of the engine during the test.

Describing the BE-7 engine as “high performance,” Mr. Bezos said the lunar landing engine was “liquid hydrogen / liquid oxygen” built with 10,000 pounds of thrust.

The engine can accelerate up to 2,000 pound-force for an “accurate landing” on the moon, according to legend Bezos. One pound of thrust is the amount of thrust it would take to hold a one pound object stationary against gravitational force.

The engine will power the Human Landing System (HLS) lander that Blue Origin worked with NASA’s Artemis program to place humans on the lunar surface by 2024.

The video, shared by Mr. Bezos on Instagram, was from a test at NASA’s Space Flight Center in Hunstville, Alabama.

The program was tested for a total of 1,245 seconds, Bezos added in his post.

Blue Origin, led by Mr Bezos for more than two decades, partnered with aerospace giants last year to build a lunar landing system, an ambitious Washington DC target to put humans back on the road. moon by 2024.
