In Noakhali, a sixty-year-old man succumbed to the first moments of the mosquito-borne disease at Noakhali General Hospital.

The deceased was 60-year-old Amir Hossain, a former soldier and son of the late Ataur Ali, from the late village of Ganesh Shaymapur, located in the Lazmipur upazila Sadar.

According to hospital sources, Amir, who was working in a private organization in Dhaka after his retirement from the army, was returning home Saturday with a fever.

His condition deteriorated en route, he was taken to the general hospital around 1 am Sunday.

He died around 6:15 am while he was undergoing treatment at the hospital, said hospital resident Syed Mohiuddin Abdul Azim.

With that, two people died of dengue in the district.

On August 2, a 30-year-old railway employee, Mosharaf Hossain Raju, died in a hospital in the city.

Meanwhile, 42 dengue patients are currently undergoing treatment at the general hospital, the RMO said.

In Mymensingh, a student, Farhad, 20, lost his dengue fight at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital at around 11:30 am

Dr. Laxmi Narayan Majumder, deputy director of the hospital, said that Farhad had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday night with dengue fever. "He died as a result of a dengue following a multiple organ failure," he said, adding that 201 patients with dengue fever were currently admitted to the hospital.

The number of dengue infections again rose on Saturday after a decline of two consecutive days, with 2176 new cases being recorded in 24 hours until Saturday morning.

New dengue infections were up 174% from Friday's 2,002. Of these, 1,065 cases were reported in Dhaka only.

The number of dengue patients fell to 2,002 on Friday from 2,326 on Thursday and 2,428 on Wednesday.

Health Services Branch (HHB) prepared the data based on reports from 40 hospitals, 30 of which were private.

Since January, 38,844 patients have been admitted to hospitals with dengue fever and 29,395 have been cured, the government said.

Currently, 9,420 patients, including children, are receiving treatment in hospitals.

Official data show 29 dead, but unofficial estimates suggest a much higher number.
