Official photos of the all-new Mazda 3 were leaked before the official debut of the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2018, featuring both sedan and sedan models. Not surprisingly, the design of the new Mazda 3 is strongly inspired by the Kai concept, with some modifications.
At the front, a long floating hood opens onto a more aggressive shape grille, delivered with two different patterns. This grille is flanked by a pair of slim headlights, while, below, the subtle protrusions at the corners of the lower apron are similar to those of the Kai concept. On the sedan that we see here, this design landmark integrates with the fog lights of the car and the lowest admission is cordoned off by a pseudo-lip.
As demonstrated with the Vision Coupe, Mazda eliminates the important character lines of its future models. On the Mazda 3, the Japanese manufacturer has shaped the bodywork so that linear transitions in shadows and shadows create a "vortex effect", visible between the front and rear wheel wells.
It is also from this angle that the shocking similarity between the concept and the sedan becomes evident, especially thanks to the rather large C pillars, which are not present on the sedan because of its larger trunk section.
When moving backwards, both models are equipped with rear lights with circular elements that do not differ from those of the Kai and are very different from those of the third generation car. The lower part is modeled on both cars, with slightly protruding sides framing the area hosting the license plate bracket and the reflectors / fog lights. We see two exhausts on the hatchback, while it seems that the sedan only gets one.
Focusing on the interior, you'll discover that the Mazda 3's new dashboard is divided into two parts, with an infotainment screen placed in a small chest. This one is isolated from the air conditioning control gear, which is placed in the alignment of the vents of the center and the passenger side.
Lower down, the center console houses both the infotainment system controls, a shifter and a rather flat armrest. Meanwhile, the driver gets his own set of vents that are placed on either side of the cockpit of the instrument, which could include a digital display on the inside.
In addition to its redesigned design, the Mazda 3 would adopt the next-generation SkyActiv-Vehicle architecture, SkyActiv engines, including its SkyActiv-X compression ignition system, and the latest Mazda Connect system.
