A total of 4,907 homes have been abandoned in Selangor, said Ng Sze Han, chairman of the local government government, transit and new village development committee.
He added that the state government had the right to seize homes when it was found that the owners had not paid the rent.
"It is possible that other abandoned houses were not reported by the deputies of the respective constituencies.
"We hope that they will report on abandoned houses to local authorities (PBT) so that follow-up action can be taken," Ng said at a general meeting in Shah Alam.
He said that 1,955 abandoned houses have been identified in Shah Alam, Subang Jaya (568), Petaling Jaya (178) and Klang (114).
In explaining, Mr. Ng said that the state government, through the PBT, would also issue an opinion if the owners of abandoned homes did not clean their properties.
