A man accused of burning a doctor and a nurse at Penang hospital

GEORGE TOWN: An employee of the Penang Island City Council pleaded not guilty to the trial court today for causing serious injuries to a doctor and nurse by letting them out of custody. Gasoline and burning them in September.

Mr. Balachandran, 39, was charged with intentionally inflicting serious injury on the two first-floor victims, Clinic Room UN6, at Lam Wah Ee Hospital, at 4:48 pm on September 3rd.

Under Article 326 of the Penal Code, the charge is punishable by imprisonment for up to 20 years. The offender is liable to a fine or flogging, if he is found guilty.

Judge Mazdi Abdul Hamid allowed Balachandran to pay bail of 6,000 RMB and warn him not to intimidate the victims.

The court has set a deadline of 3 January next year for submitting documents and medical reports on the victims.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Attorney General Farah Aimy Zainul Anwar, while Balachandran was represented by lawyer Dev Chandran.
