The finalists of the European Car of the Year Award 2019 were unveiled before the Geneva Motor Show next year, where the final winner will be revealed. Seven cars managed to win their place in the grand final after having been selected from a list of 38 candidates by 60 members of the jury.
The first model in the running for this award is the Alpine A110, a two-seater mid-engine coupe that takes the spirit of the classic sports car. In its modern form, the A110 is equipped with a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 252 hp and a torque of 320 Nm, with transmission at the rear via a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission.
The next step is the Citroen C5 Aircross, which debuted in China before later reaching European markets. Presented in the Aircross concept, the SUV is built on the PSA Group's EMP2 platform; extroverted style features; and is expected to arrive in Malaysia in 2019.
Ford's new Focus is also on the list. It is available in Europe with EcoBoost petrol and diesel engines. The Focus comes in three body styles: a five-door hatch, a five-door estate and a four-door sedan. The latter is only available in certain markets.
In rival of the Focus, Kia Ceed joins the other finalists with a new name (formerly known as cee'd), a revised style and an extensive list of equipment. The Ceed is also available as a hot hatch with a 1.6-liter T-GDi gasoline engine of 204 PS / 265 Nm, combined with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual cut.
Another sedan on the list is the latest Mercedes-Benz A-Class, a model that is already on sale here in Malaysia. The stylish new design of the W177 is coupled with other new technologies, such as a smaller 1.33-liter four-cylinder turbo developed jointly with Renault and the Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system. (MBUX).
The sixth member of this bout at seven is the Peugeot 508; the D-segment model is expected to arrive on the Malaysian shores in the second quarter of 2019. Now adopting a fastback silhouette, the seductive sedan takes inspiration from Peugeot concepts such as exalt and instinct.
Finally, there is the Jaguar I-Pace, the first 100% electric vehicle of the British brand, which incorporates an electric powertrain in an elegant SUV body. With a battery of 90 kWh, the autonomy is 480 km (according to WLTP standards) and the two electric motors (one on each axle) provide 400 PS and 696 Nm, which is good for a century of sprinting 4.8 seconds. .
