PUTRAJAYA: Nearly 1,000 people gathered in front of the National Registration Department (NRD), demanding that the government issue them identity cards and birth certificates.

One of the organizers, V Suresh, said the people attending the rally came from all over the country.

"From Kedah to Johor Bahru, from Kelantan to Terengganu. They came alone, "he told FMT.

"We went to the Ministry of the Interior earlier for a discussion and told us to come to the NRD with our documents," he added.

NRD officers ordered the crowd to line up on several rows before they could follow. Some families have come with babies while others are here with their elderly parents.

According to Suresh, they are "victims" of the previous Barisan Nasional government that never gave them their official documents.

"Even now, we did not go to see an Indian minister from Pakatan Harapan (PH)," he added. "We are dealing with the ministry of the house and they are going forward to help us.

"We do not want to cause problems. We just want this document to be issued to those who have been suffering without these documents for so many years. "

He claimed that the Indians had been marginalized for decades because they did not have the proper documents.

"Even for cremation or burial rights, we have problems. Enough, that's enough, "he said.

Last year, PH promised to solve the problem of identity cards for Malaysians if the coalition took federal control in the May 9 poll.

Amama's president, Mohamad Sabu, said that many people, especially Indians, only had red identity cards, although they were born in Malaysia and lived in the country. country for years.

PKR Vice-President Xavier Jayakumar said in May that the issue had been raised at the PH Presidential Council meeting and Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad himself was paying close attention to the issue.
