Bohemian Rhapsody Star Rami Malek spoke openly about the "weird" reaction of Freddie Mercury's sister during her meeting.

The actor plays Queen's iconic singer in the biographical film, and he received praise for the performance – even though the film itself was not so warmly received.

In September, Malek said of his meeting with the Mercury family: Jimmy Kimmel Live!"I met her sister, she saw me as a young Freddie with long hair, teeth, makeup, the 70s in his early glam-rock style.

"As you can imagine, it was an extremely strange and strange moment for her."

However, he added: "Later, it was a very moving moment, and on a more serious note, she wrote me the most moving e-mail, which was very powerful.

"Getting this vote of appreciation from people who were close to him was everything to me."

Praise indeed. And she's not the only one, because Queen's guitarist Brian May thinks Malek deserves an Oscar for the performance.

"He's amazing too, without a doubt he'll be on the list of well-deserved Oscar nominations," he said.

"He lived Freddie to such an extent that we even started thinking of him as Freddie, really remarkable."

Bohemian Rhapsody is available in the United Kingdom and the United States.
