Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would have made Marco Asensio one of his main goals – after failing in an incredible £ 160m bid for Real Madrid this summer.
According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda, the Reds will rekindle their interest in the Spanish international but will wait for the summer to make their move.
It is understood that Real was reluctant to let other big names leave after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.
But after a difficult start to the season in which Asensio was one of the worst performers, Liverpool could finally land his man.
Inda told the Spanish publication OK Diario: "This year, an offer of 180 million euros has been presented to Real Madrid Liverpool for Asensio.
"The club refused because Cristiano left, but Klopp is in love with the player and will be looking for him next summer."
The 22-year-old is likely to generate a lot of interest if he becomes available, and Juventus would have already considered making a decision in January that could undermine the Reds.
But the magnitude of the bid announced by Liverpool last summer suggests that they really want their interest for the player while Klopp is pushing for a new approach.
