Google raises $ 1 billion in real estate near its headquarters – Tech News

The Googleplex is getting bigger.

Google has signed a $ 1 billion deal with a 51.8-acre business park next to the Mountain View headquarters in California. The purchase contributes to a gigantic expansion of real estate that the company is undertaking in California and New York.

A Google spokeswoman confirmed the acquisition, but declined to comment further. The business park covers a larger area than the current headquarters of the company, according to the Mercury News, who reported the agreement earlier. This is the largest real estate purchase made this year in Silicon Valley, where competition for offices among tech companies is fierce.

Google, a major landowner from Mountain View, recently took office in the nearby city of Sunnyvale, where the company established its cloud computing division. Google's plans to buy a US $ 67 million land in San José, where it wants to build a massive new development, are facing legal backlash.

Earlier this year, Google bought the Chelsea market in Manhattan for 2.4 billion US dollars (10.06 billion rand) to expand in New York. – Bloomberg
