Jose Mourinho confirmed that Alexis Sanchez had been completely removed from the Manchester United team against Young Boys and that he was not injured.
Sanchez played in the 68th minute of United's scoreless draw with Crystal Palace this weekend, but failed to impress and was excluded from the Champions League 18 against the Swiss champions.
The 29-year-old Chilean had already been completely removed from the West Ham meet-day squad in September and Sanchez has only started three of the ten games since.
Mourinho also relegated Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba to the bench, although the duo made their appearance and played a key role in Marouane Fellaini's winning goal in the 91st minute. United's manager was upset by the fact that attention was drawn to the unselected players.
"No, Sanchez is not hurt," Mourinho said. "But you're still curious to talk about those who do not play tonight, you had Marcus Rashford playing new, that's what you want, that's what you're asking all the time and that you had.
"So do not talk about Lukaku, who has not scored a goal at Old Trafford since March, and then you ask why he does not play, you put me in difficult situations with difficult questions, but you can be nice to me and say, "Jose tonight, you play Marcus Rashford as new," and I could go from there.
"But you say you've left big names on the outside yes, I've left big names on the outside, but I'm playing against other guys and for me the good ones." thing is that everyone was on the ground, for 90 minutes or 15 minutes, like Mata, all gave everything and I'm happy with the attitude. "
United had 10 points in five UEFA Champions League games and was ahead of Juventus by two before the final day. United and Juve have qualified, but the Mourinho team is unlikely to overtake the group if it beats Valencia and Juve fails to defeat the Young Boys in Bern in a fortnight.
Mourinho, however, expects United to finish second.
"I think that being in the last 16 of this group is a feat," added Mourinho. "Not great, not fantastic, but a feat, because we could finish third and play in the Europa League in February, which will not happen."
"There are better teams than us, better teams, with more realistic ambitions, but I always say that when the team arrives in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, not the last 16, but when a team goes through a knockout phase and comes into the quarter-finals, anything can happen.
"But right now, we're going to finish second and we're going to have a team that has won the group so we can have Barcelona, we can have Real Madrid, I do not know who else, but for sure we may have Bayern Munich, we can have the best teams in the world. "
