The Reds boss has clarified his comments on the midfielder and has argued that he will become an Anfield club star in the future.
Jurgen Klopp backed Naby Keita, saying the midfielder would become a "huge player" for the Premier League club, now that he was fit.
Keita, 23, left Liverpool in July for Liverpool, but has only made six starts since arriving, in part because of injury problems.
The Guinean international has not yet scored goals or assistance, because he had problems in the back and thigh this season.
Klopp seemed to say that Keita had made his debut at Anfield last week, but the German clarified his remarks on Tuesday, saying that he was referring to the player's backhand with a hamstring.
"He's an exceptional player," said Klopp at a press conference in anticipation of a tough encounter with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. "I do not read the English press, but this week I picked up a title from what I said, which I did not mean like that.
"Naby was not average since coming in. After his injury, he was in an average situation because he had to get back in shape, but the start was brilliant.
"He will be an important player in the future for Liverpool and he is already there.
"He is now really fit, he looks good at training, but as it is in a club like ours, sometimes you have to wait a little longer for the moment.
"And when you have the moment, then you have to be ready, it's like that.
