Mohammad Fuzi Harun, senior police chief, today denied the involvement of the police in the temple rally that escalated into violence in Subang Jaya after a video showing a man tied up to force has become viral.
Fuzi stated that the filmed person expressing his frustration was a former member of the Voluntary Police Reserves (PVR).
"It has already been attached to the PVR, but we ended its services because of problems.
"Therefore, claims that the police were involved (in the protest) are not true," he told reporters after a ceremony at the Royal College of Police in Malaysia.
On Monday, a group reportedly entered the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple of USJ 25, causing unrest in which several people were reportedly injured. The temple was also damaged and several vehicles burned.
Early Tuesday morning, a demonstration to oppose the relocation of the temple took an unruly turn, the protesters burning more vehicles and attacking a firefighter. The real estate developer's office was also vandalized.
When asked to comment on the firefighter's assault, Mr. Fuzi said that a special working group had been set up to identify the individuals involved.
"We sent a team from Bukit Aman to help the Selangor police identify those who attacked not only the firefighter but also the police.
"We are gathering information and evidence, and we would like those who have recorded the incident to come forward."
Firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, 24, was seriously injured after being suspected of being attacked by rioters while he was trying to extinguish the fire of several vehicles at the airport. Outside the temple.
He has since been transferred to the National Institute of Cardiology.
